Korea - Gwanhwamun Square Photo-Op

It was late in the afternoon of April 20 after a long Han River cruising and
Yeouido Park photo op when we went to Gwanhwamun Square to take a stroll.

It is located in Seoul-si Jongno-gu Sejong-ro.

Reviews said that Gwanghwamun Square has served as a major landmark
exhibiting the rich historical and cultural resources of the country.

At the middle of the square is a big monument of Korea’s King Sejong.
King Sejong the Great brought Korean history with his introduction of
hangul, the native phonetic alphabet system for the Korean language.

Upon approaching the monument, there were two old koreans maybe
from their tourism department wherein they offer hanboks for photo op.
Of course, we grabbed it and had pictures wearing it.

My son reading the korean alphabet.

We also saw the "Historical Flow" This measures 1 meter wide and 365
meters long on both side edges of square. The east flow has 617 stone
boards written with major historical events from 1392 (the start of the
Joseon period) to 2008. The west flow has empty stone boards waiting
to be recorded for the future. This "Historical Flow" plays a role of
passing underground sourced water generated from the Gyeongbok
Palace and Gwanghwamun subway stations to Cheongyecheon.

Since we were tired and its becoming late already, we were not able to
visit the ancient palace complex and also the statue of one of Korea’s
most famous admirals located in the southern end of the plaza.

We'll make it a point to visit these 2 landmarks in our next trip.

How to get here:
Get off at Jong-gak station (subway line #1)- exit #1,  go 350 meters
towards Gwanghwamun
Get off at the Gyeonbok-gung station (subway line #3)- exit #6, go
towards Sejong-ro
Get off at the Gwanghwamun station (Subway line #5): Exit #2
